JoyNews held a National Dialogue on Ghana’s emergency care crisis on Thursday, April 2, bringing focus to patients lying on hospital floors, overcrowded Accident and Emergency (A&E) units, and delays that could mean the difference between life and death.

The dialogue examined growing concerns within the country’s healthcare system, particularly its preparedness to handle critical medical cases amid increasing pressure on emergency services.

Key questions which drove the discussion included why Accident and Emergency units are becoming increasingly congested, why some patients are forced to receive treatment under distressing conditions, and what this means for survival when every second counts.

The JoyNews Thought Leadership Discussion on Ghana’s Emergency Care Crisis brought together health professionals, policy experts, and key stakeholders to interrogate the root causes of these challenges and explore practical, sustainable solutions to improve emergency care outcomes.
