The Kotobabi District Police Command has arrested two suspected street robbers following an intelligence-led patrol operation in Dzorwulu, Accra.
According to a police statement, the arrest was made on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, when a patrol team on routine motorbike patrol encountered two suspicious persons riding an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike.
The suspects were identified as Stephen Gletsu, 37, who was riding the motorbike, and Mohammed Sheriff, 20, who was the pillion rider.
Police said both men were dressed in all-black attire and wore black helmets, with the pillion rider seen wielding a cutlass.
The suspects reportedly fled upon spotting police, prompting a chase.
During the pursuit, police fired warning shots, causing the suspects to lose control and fall off the motorbike near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission.
The suspects attempted to flee on foot but were traced and arrested by the patrol team.
A search of them yielded several items, including multiple mobile phones, cash, and a necklace.
The items retrieved include: one Infinix mobile phone, one iPhone 12 Pro, one Samsung A21, one iPhone 15 Pro, one iPhone 13, one Infinix feature phone, one itel feature phone, one Nokia feature phone, one Infinix X6528 phone, a necklace, GH¢2,690.00 and USD2.
Police said the suspects sustained varying degrees of injuries during the arrest and were taken to the Police Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to committing robbery and confessed to attacking several unsuspecting victims within the Accra Metropolis.
Police said they have obtained statements from several victims, who have identified both the suspects and the stolen mobile phones.
The victims, according to the statement, narrated how the suspects attacked them with a machete and made away with their phones, money and other valuables.
The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to combating street robbery and other criminal activity in the metropolis.
