The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has announced the arrest of 10 people, including eight Chinese and two Ghanaians, over an alleged theft of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) service cables.
They are suspected to be players behind an organised cable theft and metal export syndicate.
Their arrest followed an intelligence-led raid conducted on March 4 by a joint team from CID headquarters, Operations Unit and Energy Ministry officials at the premises of their Company located at the Kpong Industrial Area, Tema.
“On arrival, the team observed approximately 70 employees actively engaged in cutting service cables into pieces and stripping the metal component from the insulation. The extracted bare wires were being compressed into metal blocks believed to be destined for export.
“Over 100 drums of service cables believed to be the property of the ECG were discovered on the premises. The volume and condition of the recovered cable indicate a sustained and systematic operation targeting ECG infrastructure,” the Director-General of the CID, Lydia Yaako Donkor, reported on March 9, 2026.
She said the 10 suspects are believed to play various managerial roles in the company.
According to her, a 24-hour guard has been placed at the premises to prevent the removal of or evacuation of any material pending the conclusion of the investigation.
