The Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested one Alhaji Abdalah, based in Asawase in Kumasi, for his alleged supply of weapons to a dismantled armed robbery gang linked to multiple armed robberies across Obuasi, Dunkwa, Wasa Akropong, and Asin Fosu.

According to the police, he sold some recovered AK-47 assault rifles to the gang, who were preparing for an unsuccessful operation along the Obuasi-Dunkwa stretch on March 10, 2026.

The weapons were allegedly sold for GH₵45,000.00.

The same Alhaji Abdalah has also been linked to the sale of a G3 rifle and a pistol to another armed robbery suspect identified as Samuel Agyei alias Africa, who is currently on remand at Wasa Akropong.

Foiled Robbery
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has successfully disrupted the gang in operations conducted on March 10 and March 11.

Acting on credible intelligence on March 10, 2026, the Command pounced on the gang that had converged in a bush along the Obuasi-Dunkwa stretch and were making preparations to carry out a robbery.

“Upon arriving at the bush location near Obuasi on the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway, the team spotted approximately four young men armed with guns. On sighting the Police, the suspects immediately opened fire and attempted to flee through the bush.

“The Police returned fire, and two (2) suspects sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange, while the remaining two, also believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, succeeded in escaping through the bush.”

The two injured suspects were identified as David Aheto, aged 42, originally from Sogakope but a resident of Asin Fosu, and Illiasu Bawa, aged 32, a native of Banda Nkwanta in the Savanna Region.

Both suspects were rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital for medical attention, but were pronounced dead on arrival by the Medical Officer on duty.

The police recovered one AK-47 assault rifle bearing serial number 68104599, and a total of 36 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition.

Follow-up Arrests
A follow-up exercise conducted on March 11, 2026, led to the arrest of suspect Aminu Iddrisu, also known as 0244, who led the team to recover one AK-47 assault rifle and one Bruni pistol, which had been concealed in a sack and hidden inside a sheep pen at Moshie Zongo, Kumasi.

Acting on additional intelligence, the team arrested suspect Daniel Debrah, aged 24, from whom an unregistered red Toyota Corolla saloon car was recovered, suspected to have been part of the proceeds of robberies carried out by the late suspect David Aheto.

Intelligence further established that suspect Samuel Agyei and other persons currently on remand at Wasa Akropong are members of the same gang.

Suspects Abdalah Alhassan, Jemini Usman alias Babamu, Aminu Iddrisu alias 0244, and Daniel Debrah are currently in Police custody assisting the investigation, while intensive efforts are underway to arrest suspect Mallam Aminu and other members of the gang who are on the run and also recover any remaining firearms in their possession.

“The Command reaffirms its zero-tolerance stance against armed robbery and the unlawful possession and trading of firearms, and will continue to pursue all individuals involved in such criminal networks with the full force of the law.”
