Two men are in police custody after they were arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The suspects, identified as Kwame Boahen, 35, a pillion rider, and Fatau Alhassan, 52, an okada rider, were arrested during a patrol operation by the Kaneshie Divisional Police Command on December, 20, 2025.
A press release issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service said the arrest followed an incident that occurred the previous day, December, 19, 2025.
The police said officers on patrol spotted the suspects riding a Royal motorbike with a faded number plate at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and attempted to stop them for a routine check.
On seeing the police, the suspects abandoned the motorbike and attempted to flee.
They were arrested after a brief chase, during which they resisted arrest.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of a pistol bearing serial number 39363 with the inscription “CS HEAND SUH”, together with 72 rounds of ammunition.
The police also retrieved an iPhone, an LG smartphone, a Blackberry phone, a keypad phone and two wristwatches from the suspects.
The suspects were cautioned and remain in police custody to assist with investigations.
The retrieved items have been kept for evidential purposes, while investigations continue to trace the owners of the recovered mobile phones and to establish the source of the firearm and ammunition.
Ms Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, called on the public to support police work by providing credible information to help curb crime and improve public safety.
