The Ashanti Region has seen a major breakthrough in the fight against organized crime, with police successfully uncovering multiple hideouts used by a notorious robbery gang. The operation led to the arrest of 10 gang members and resulted in the deaths of three others during armed confrontations.
Authorities traced the gang’s bases to several locations, including Esereso, Ejisu, Adugya, Achiakrom, Atonsu, Cherepatre, Ahwiaa, Zongo, Aputuogya, Asuofua, Atonsu Monaco, Paying, Obuasi, and Buoho. The gang is believed to have orchestrated a series of rural bank robberies across the region.
Speaking at a press briefing at police headquarters in Accra on September 24, 2025, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Yohonu confirmed the success of the operation. He revealed that the police recovered an arsenal of 14 weapons, which included AK-47 rifles, pump-action and single-barreled guns, ammunition, as well as vehicles and mobile phones used in the commission of crimes.
The IGP praised the Ashanti Regional Police Command, under DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, for their strategic efforts in dismantling the gang and restoring security in the affected communities.
