Police Deploy Reinforcements And Amoured Vehicles to Nalerigu After Houses Set Ablaze

The Inspector-General of Police has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its surrounding communities in the North East Region following violent disturbances that led to the burning of two houses in the regional capital.

In a statement issued by the Police, the deployment follows incidents in which “some youth set ablaze two houses in the regional capital, Nalerigu, and threatened to burn more houses and attack citizens of Nalerigu.”

According to the Police, the reinforcement is intended to stabilise the security situation and safeguard residents.

“The deployment is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and beefing up security in the affected communities as well as enforcing the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its environs by the government,” the statement said.

The Police further noted that the teams will assist in tightening security beyond the immediate communities affected.

“The teams will also support the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security on the highways to ensure the safety of commuters,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Police assured residents that investigations into the attacks are ongoing.

“Investigations into the attacks and the burning of the houses are ongoing, and persons involved will be arrested and brought to justice,” the statement stressed.
