A disturbing case has unfolded in the Ashanti Region, where a 34-year-old tricycle (Okada) rider, identified as Maharaj Suleman, has landed in police custody over claims of abducting a 13-year-old girl.
Suleman made his first appearance before the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court, located within the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality. However, the court did not accept a plea and remanded him into custody. He is scheduled to return on August 15, 2025.
According to police prosecutor Detective Chief Inspector Samuel Kyei Baffour, the girl’s father — the complainant — lives with his children in Kunsu, situated in the Ahafo Ano South West District.
On March 14, the father sent his teenage daughter and her 8-year-old brother to collect leaves used as feed for their rabbits. During their errand, the two reportedly came across Suleman, who was operating a tricycle.
The prosecution stated that Suleman offered both siblings a ride, but curiously dropped only the boy off at Kunsu. Instead of returning the girl, he continued on to Mankranso with her.
Two days after the incident, the missing girl was seen in Nimfourkrom, a community near Mankranso. A witness who encountered her asked questions, and she revealed that she had been taken there by Suleman.
The information was quickly relayed to her father, who alerted the Mankranso Police. Officers responded swiftly, leading to Suleman’s arrest.
During interrogation, Suleman is said to have confessed to the act in his caution statement. He now faces legal proceedings, with investigations still active as authorities dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding the case.
