The Bono Regional Police Command has suspended several officers after a viral video showed them allegedly extorting money from motorists along a highway in the region.
According to a statement issued by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the implicated officers have been identified and interdicted to pave the way for a comprehensive investigation.
The Command emphasized that the internal probe will be thorough and unbiased, aimed at uncovering the truth and ensuring that disciplinary actions are taken in accordance with police regulations.
“The Bono Regional Command remains dedicated to maintaining the highest levels of professionalism and integrity within the Service,” the statement assured.
The decision to interdict the officers comes after the video spread widely on social media, drawing heavy public backlash. The footage allegedly showed uniformed personnel stopping vehicles and collecting cash from drivers, prompting calls for swift accountability from the police hierarchy.
