Portable Surrenders to Police After Being Declared Wanted
Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has surrendered himself to the police after being declared wanted.
The declaration, which was made on Monday, followed allegations that Portable assaulted three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development at the Ota Zonal Office.
The singer turned himself in at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, today.
Reports indicate that he is currently being transported to Ogun State, where he will be handed over to the police for further investigation and potential prosecution.
This development follows Portable’s public plea to Nigerians and the Ogun State Government.
In a surprising twist, he claimed to be a “madman” receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta. His statement raised eyebrows as he seemed to use his mental health as a defence against the allegations.
The incident that led to his arrest reportedly involved Portable resisting officials who were performing their duties at his business premises.
Eyewitnesses claim that the confrontation escalated quickly, resulting in physical altercations. The Ogun State police have since intensified their efforts to ensure that the case is thoroughly investigated.
Portable, known for his controversial lifestyle and outspoken nature, has had previous run-ins with law enforcement.
However, this case marks one of the most serious allegations against him. The police have assured the public that due process will be followed in handling the matter.
As the singer is transported to Ogun State, the public awaits updates on the next steps in the legal process. Whether Portable’s defence regarding his mental health will impact the outcome remains to be seen, but the incident has once again stirred discussions about accountability and celebrity behaviour in Nigeria.
