The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Memphis Metropolitan Limited, an Accra-based construction firm, Patrick Kwame Danso, has reconstructed and handed over the Akyem Asene Presbyterian Primary School near Oda in the Eastern Region to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
The 83-year-old school block had never seen any renovation until the intervention by Mr Danso.
The GH₵250,000 facility has six classrooms, an office, a store and toilets for staff and pupils.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, stressed that the PCG was not only committed to educational development, but also instilling discipline, the fear of God, humility and resilience in its products.
He advised the parents, staff and pupils of the school to take proper care of the facility through regular maintenance to increase its lifespan while maximising efficiency to justify the huge investment.
He noted that even though Mr Danso was not a member of the PCG, he had spent resources to provide the school block and a one-storey manse for the church at Asene, and urged other affluent people in society to take a cue from him.
Rebuild nation
Rt Rev. Kwakye advised Ghanaians to bury their political, ethnic and religious differences and assist the government to rebuild the nation.
For his part, Mr Danso said he decided to reconstruct the facility to replace the dilapidated building, which was a disincentive for teachers and pupils of the school.
The Head teacher of the school, Felix Bamfo, praised Mr Danso for his magnanimity.
He stressed that the provision of the modern facility had helped the school to increase its enrolment.
Other speakers at the function included the Chairperson of the West Akyem Presbytery of the PCG, Rev. Raymond Baah Abekah; the Pastor-in-charge of the Asene Ebenezer Congregation of the PCG, Rev. Daniel Ofori Nkansah, and the Abontendomhene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Ankomah Bempong, who all expressed appreciation to Mr Danso for the gesture.
