President John Dramani Mahama has announced that more health workers will be recruited onto the national payroll as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare delivery system.

Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament, the President said government is committed to addressing the staffing gaps in public health facilities across the country.

He explained that the move will cover nurses, midwives, laboratory technicians and other allied health professionals who have completed their training but are yet to be formally employed.

According to President Mahama, the recruitment forms part of a broader strategy to improve access to quality healthcare, especially in rural and underserved communities. He noted that increasing the health workforce will reduce pressure on existing staff and enhance service delivery.

The President also assured that government will continue to invest in health infrastructure, equipment and logistics to complement the addition of new personnel.

He reiterated government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector to ensure that all Ghanaians receive timely and quality medical care.

The announcement was among key highlights of the 2026 State of the Nation Address, which outlined government’s plans for national development.
