Award-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has reportedly had his offer to hold a free concert in Burkina Faso turned down by the country’s president, Ibrahim Traoré.
According to a report shared by Burkinabè Instagram blog @trulilgram, Burna Boy had taken to his secondary Instagram account to express his desire to host a free show for the people of Burkina Faso sometime this year. He reportedly stated, “If possible it would be an honor for me to give the people of Burkina Faso a Free BURNA BOY Concert sometime this year Insha Allah.”
However, the offer appears to have been politely declined by the West African nation’s leader. President Traoré, according to the report, acknowledged the kind gesture but emphasized that his country needs to remain focused and avoid distractions, especially during a period where national unity and vigilance are seen as top priorities.
The blog post also claimed that citizens backing the president—referred to as “BH”—echoed his sentiment, urging Burna Boy to take the concert elsewhere as they concentrate on protecting and supporting their leader.
While the singer’s intention may have been well-meaning, the response underscores Burkina Faso’s current focus on internal security and national stability rather than entertainment or public gatherings.
As of now, Burna Boy has not made any public reaction to the reported refusal.
