President John Dramani Mahama has committed his first six months’ salary as a personal contribution to support individuals suffering from chronic health conditions.
This major gesture coincided with the official rollout of the “Mahama Cares” initiative, which took place on April 30, 2025.
The newly launched program is centered around a national medical fund aimed at assisting patients who struggle to afford critical treatment.
As part of the initiative, Mahama appealed to corporate institutions across Ghana, including banks, mining companies, and other businesses, to contribute toward the fund as part of their corporate social responsibility.
He reminded the corporate sector that their clients and employees could directly benefit from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, emphasizing the importance of their participation.
Mahama encouraged both private and public companies to allocate a portion of their annual CSR budgets to this cause, highlighting the potential positive impact on the nation’s healthcare system.
The fund is expected to provide substantial aid to citizens facing life-threatening health issues and is designed to improve access to essential medical care throughout Ghana.
With the president leading by example, the initiative is poised to inspire broader support and drive collective action to ease the financial burden on patients.
