President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on March 1, 2026.
The position is one of Ghana’s most important diplomatic posts, given Nigeria’s role as a key regional partner and West Africa’s largest economy.
Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu is a Ghanaian media and entertainment executive turned public figure. Before his diplomatic appointment, he was widely known as a founder and leader in Ghana’s entertainment sector, having established 3 Media Networks, the organisation behind the influential 3Music Awards and other creative initiatives that shaped the country’s urban music landscape.
He also has experience in digital media and music platforms, having held strategic positions at organisations focused on pan-African entertainment development. Abu’s appointment to the High Commission in Abuja comes at a time when Ghana is seeking to deepen cooperation on trade, migration, and regional diplomacy with Nigeria, roles that the High Commissioner traditionally helps to advance.
His selection follows the recall of Ghana’s previous High Commissioner to Nigeria earlier in February 2026, a rare diplomatic transition that drew public attention.
As High Commissioner-designate, Abu will be responsible for overseeing Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Nigeria, boosting bilateral cooperation, promoting Ghanaian trade and investment interests, and providing consular services to Ghanaians in Nigeria. He is expected to undergo the necessary diplomatic accreditation process before formally assuming duties in Abuja.
The Ghana High Commission in Nigeria also provides vital services such as passport and visa processing, consular assistance, and engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora community in the host country.
Ghana and Nigeria maintain extensive political, economic and cultural ties that include collaboration within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and joint efforts in regional security and economic integration.
