President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed claims that the recent security service recruitment process was influenced by favoritism, emphasizing that digital systems were used to ensure fairness.
Speaking to the Ghanaian community in Philadelphia in the United States, the President noted that the initiative, while well-intentioned, received an overwhelming response from applicants nationwide, with about 500,000 vouchers sold and only 5,000 candidates initially considered.
He explained that technology was introduced to address long-standing concerns about partiality in public sector hiring.
“There have been a lot of complaints that people get recruited based on who they know. This was an attempt to use digitalization to sort through the first wave of applications. The computer doesn’t know who you are. The intent was in good faith, but the response was overwhelming,” he stated.
President Mahama assured that measures would be reinforced to maintain transparency and equal opportunity in future security service recruitment.
“We held a meeting and decided to expand the recruitment, and all those who applied don’t need to pay again,” he added.
