President John Mahama has been awarded the prestigious International Statesperson Award by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia in recognition of his contributions to democratic governance and international diplomacy.
The award, which is the highest honour conferred by the Council, was presented at a ceremony held in Philadelphia, in the United States, on March 27, 2026.
According to the Council, the International Statesperson Award is reserved for distinguished global leaders whose work advances peace, freedom, and has a lasting impact on world affairs.
President Mahama was recognised for his sustained commitment to democratic leadership, regional stability, and global engagement, as well as his role in promoting diplomacy and international cooperation.
The honour also marks a significant milestone, with President Mahama becoming the first African leader to receive the award since its inception in 1973.
Officials of the Council praised his leadership, noting that his career reflects the core values the award seeks to celebrate, including the promotion of peace, democratic governance, and global partnerships.
The recognition further underscores Ghana’s growing influence on the global stage and highlights the country’s continued role in advancing international dialogue on governance and development.
