President John Dramani Mahama has praised Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for its efforts in adopting cost-saving measures, particularly the installation of solar power systems. During a meeting with GBC management, headed by Director-General Professor Amin Alhassan, on Thursday, December 8, 2026, President Mahama commended the corporation for its proactive approach to reducing operational costs.
“I am impressed that GBC is thinking outside the box and exploring innovative ways to reduce its carbon footprint and energy costs,” President Mahama said. He noted that the installation of solar power systems would not only reduce GBC’s energy expenses but also enable the corporation to allocate more resources to programming and content development.
The President expressed confidence that GBC would continue to serve as a leading voice in Ghana’s media landscape, providing quality content that informs, educates, and entertains the public. He emphasized the importance of public media in promoting national unity and development, and assured GBC management of his administration’s support.
According to President Mahama, GBC’s efforts to reduce costs and increase efficiency are in line with his government’s vision for public sector institutions. He urged GBC to continue exploring innovative solutions to its operational challenges, including exploring new ways to supplement its budgetary allocations.
The President also hinted that a bold proposal would be presented to cabinet, outlining a new funding model for GBC that would enable the corporation to achieve financial sustainability.
“We think that we must think outside the box and explore new ways of doing things,” he said, adding that GBC’s leadership should be commended for taking the initiative to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
