The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill has generated heated national debate as it seeks to regulate issues of sexual orientation, gender identity, family values, among other issues.

Supporters of the bill, including religious bodies, traditional authorities, and conservative civil society groups, argue that the legislation is necessary to protect Ghana’s cultural values, moral standards, and the traditional family structure.

However, the bill has faced strong criticism from human rights organisations, legal experts, and others, who contend that some provisions may infringe on the fundamental human rights guaranteed under the 1992 Constitution and international human rights treaties to which the country is a signatory.
