President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in members of Ghana’s National African Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council in Accra on Tuesday February, 10, 2026.
The Council will oversee the country’s participation in the upcoming peer review under the African Peer Review Mechanism.
President Mahama described the African Peer Review Mechanism as an important tool for assessing governance reforms and guiding policy direction, and said Ghana stands ready to take part in the second-generation peer review scheduled for next week on the margins of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
“The APRM provides an important platform for evaluating our governance systems and shaping reforms that strengthen democracy and accountability. We are ready to participate fully and to lead this process,” President Mahama said.
The Governing Council, which will oversee the review, is chaired by Professor Akua Kuenyehia.
In brief remarks, Professor Kuenyehia thanked the President and said the Council would uphold transparency and the independence of governance institutions in carrying out its work.
Other members of the Council include Dr Joseph Whittal, Chairman of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Mr Joseph Obeng, Mr David Ofosu-Dorte and Mrs Cornelia Amoah.
The Council is expected to guide Ghana’s engagement in the peer review process and contribute to governance reforms arising from the exercise.
