The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has strongly condemned the alleged assault on Class Media Group reporter Samuel Addo, describing the incident as a serious attack on press freedom.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Association said the assault, which occurred while Mr. Addo was reportedly performing his professional duties, violates the constitutional protections for media freedom under Article 162 of the 1992 Constitution.

PRINPAG added that any action intended to intimidate or obstruct journalists threatens Ghana’s democratic principles.

The group has called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of the Interior to conduct a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation, emphasising that those found culpable must be held accountable in accordance with the law.

“Ensuring justice for Mr. Addo is vital not just for the individual journalist, but as a clear message that attacks on media professionals will not be tolerated,” the statement read.

PRINPAG also urged the public and security agencies to respect the essential role of journalists in national development, noting that media practitioners are critical partners in keeping the public informed and promoting accountability.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety, rights, and independence of journalists while advocating for a free and responsible media environment in Ghana.
