The Ghana Prisons Service has cautioned the public against fraudsters impersonating the Service and its officers on Facebook and other social media platforms to defraud unsuspecting persons.

In a statement issued today, the Prisons Administration said individuals are falsely using the names of its officers, including Director General Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), to solicit money, gifts, or personal information.

“The Service does not authorise any individual to solicit money, gifts, or personal information on its behalf through social media or unofficial channels,” the statement said.

The Service stressed that recruitment and all official engagements are conducted only through “approved and publicly announced procedures.”

It added that it does not demand payment at any stage of recruitment or for any official service.

The Service advised the public to be vigilant and avoid engaging with such fraudulent individuals; refrain from making payments or sharing personal information with unverified persons; and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station or through official Ghana Prisons Service channels.

“The Ghana Prisons Service will not be held responsible for any loss incurred through dealings with such impostors,” the statement said.

The Service added that it is collaborating with the Police to apprehend and prosecute those involved.
