Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is a former Vice President of Ghana

The campaign team of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly dismissed recent

claims made by fellow NPP presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, describing them as baseless, uninformed, and unwarranted.

In a statement issued on Tuesday January 20, 2026, the Bawumia Campaign raised concern about a circulating video message in which Agyapong allegedly accused Dr Bawumia of making comments about the health of late party stalwart Albert Adu Boahen, and influencing an alleged decision not to participate in the 1996 NPP presidential primaries.

The campaign camp categorically rejected the allegations, stating that Dr Bawumia has never made the statements attributed to him, and has never discussed Adu Boahen’s health or his participation in any party primaries.

The statement also condemned reported remarks in which Agyapong labelled Dr Bawumia dishonest and unfit for leadership, describing the characterisations as unfair and unjustified.

For accountability, the campaign challenged Agyapong to produce verifiable video or audio evidence to back his claims if he stands by them.

“In our political discourse, accuracy matters. Words also matter,” the statement stressed, warning that false attributions could mislead the public and unnecessarily inflame tensions within the party.

The campaign further called on Agyapong to issue an immediate apology to Dr Bawumia for what it described as false and damaging statements, and urged political actors to uphold truthfulness, decorum, and restraint in public engagements.

The statement was signed by Nana Akomeah, Chairman of Campaign Communications for the Bawumia Campaign.
