The Principal of the Accra College of Education, Professor Samuel Awinkene Atintono, has been voted the Best Principal of the Year, Principal of the Colleges of Education category, under the Ghana Education Awards 2025.
The award, which was presented to him after the annual congress of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), was in recognition of his outstanding leadership.
Selection
In a brief explanation, the outgoing President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Daniel Botchway, who presented the citation to Prof. Atintono, explained that the Best Principal category was selected based on nomination.
He explained that Prof. Atintono was selected among other principals who were also nominated, but added that the final selection, which was normally handled by the awards committee, involved the work of the nominees, their background, among others, before the selection.
Mr Botchway explained that the award was an annual event, where the awards committee opened nominations for stakeholders to make their nominations.
He said the award covered about 50 categories, where individuals who distinguished themselves within the year ending were honoured.
Acknowledgement
Acknowledging the award, Prof. Atintono thanked the student body for the award, adding that he never expected such an award, since he was carrying out his responsibility as a Principal and also President of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education, Ghana (PRINCOF).
He said he never knew he was being monitored in the course of his work, and advised that the award should serve as a wake-up call that “whatever we do, we must do it well because people are watching.”
Prof. Atintono gave the assurance that he would continue to work hard for the good of not only the Accra College of Education, but all, and in particular, the welfare of both lecturers and students.
