A structure believed to be affiliated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Pusiga, Upper East Region, was damaged and set on fire yesterday. The incident involved a group of youth dismantling and burning the building, which was painted in the party’s colors.
Contrary to initial reports suggesting political rivalry as the motive, police investigations reveal that the incident was actually sparked by a misunderstanding between the youth and community elders. The police have cautioned against spreading misinformation, warning that it could cause fear and panic, particularly as the country approaches the next general elections.
The authorities are working to resolve the matter and apprehend both the perpetrators of the destruction and those responsible for spreading false information. Efforts are ongoing to arrest those involved and bring them to justice.
Social media users are reacting to the incident with a mix of outrage and frustration. “This one too, they’ll be arrested and then released, making a mockery of our justice system,” wrote one user. “Why video everything? Can’t we just handle situations like this without broadcasting it?” asked another.
Some users expressed apathy towards the political tensions, saying “I’m just observing from my corner, but let someone cross my line and it’ll be a different story.” Others predicted a revolution, saying “A time is coming when the people will rise up without waiting for any force.”
Some accused the elders of taking bribes from Vice President Bawumia, while others criticized the police for only arresting a few perpetrators.
