In a formal notice to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, the Union described the situation as a humanitarian crisis, stressing that the prolonged non-payment of wages has left many workers struggling with broken families, health problems, and children forced out of school.

The Union blamed the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) for deliberately ignoring multiple appeals for dialogue. Efforts to involve the National Labour Commission, Parliament’s Transport Committee, and the Ministry of Labour have also failed to produce results.

Union leaders argue that government’s continued silence violates the Labour Act, which requires either negotiation or arbitration when such disputes arise. They have therefore resolved to intensify pressure through mass action.

The protest is expected to mobilize thousands of workers from Tema, Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tarkwa. Demonstrators will picket at the Ministry of Transport, march to Parliament to deliver a petition, continue to the Ghana Railway Development Authority, and finally converge at the Trades Union Congress headquarters in Accra.

The RWU says its demand goes beyond recovering unpaid wages, noting that the demonstration is about protecting the survival of the railway industry and restoring dignity to workers who have been left uncertain about their future.
