Social intervention initiative, Salaam Ghana, has stressed that Ramadan charity must go beyond symbolic food donations to drive long-term community empowerment and sustainable growth.
The Head of Salaam Ghana, Mouhamad Hamidi, explained that the country had enormous untapped talent, which, if properly empowered through structured and professional interventions, could transform communities and promote lasting growth and development beyond seasonal acts of charity.
“We have a lot of talents in Ghana.
We have a lot. If you empower them, you will see wonders. And that’s our role.
We have to empower our people.
So they also can take initiatives and then they can spread the Salaam (Peace) across Ghana,” he said.
He said that when he led a team to distribute 250 food boxes to vulnerable Muslim families at Madina in Accra as part of this year’s Ramadan outreach programme.
Initiative
Salaam Ghana is the social platform of the Ghana Islamic Society for Education and Reformation (GISER), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to enhancing the Muslim community through quality, affordable education and proper Islamic guidance.
The donation aimed to ease the burden of feeding during the fasting period, while reinforcing the organisation’s long-term empowerment and sustainability agenda for the community.
Empowering talents
To ensure Ramadan giving goes beyond seasonal acts, Mr Hamidi said Salaam Ghana was building a structured and sustainable model anchored in professionalism and reinvestment.
He explained that the organisation operated from facilities owned by the GISER, and any revenue generated was channelled back into community-focused institutions, including the Madina Islamic School and a College of Islamic Studies.
He said the outfit had assembled a team of professionals with defined responsibilities to guarantee accountability and continuity.
The long-term objective, he added, was to refine the Madina model and replicate it progressively across the country.
The Wangara Chief of Madina, Alhaji Mahama Yussif Afanla, who received the items on behalf of the families, described the donation as timely and impactful because many households struggled to secure nutritious meals during Ramadan, making the intervention significant.
“This is not the first time.
They have supported us for a long time and the people even expect it,” he said, expressing appreciation to Salaam Ghana and GISER.
The Vice-Chair of the Madina Central Mosque Management Committee, Alhaji Jabir Kango Bun Ameer Yaadiga, described the exercise as both an honour and a privilege because partnership between religious leadership and community actors demonstrated unity and commitment to welfare.
He indicated that the 200 boxes distributed marked only the beginning, with additional food support expected in the coming days.
Alhaji Kango commended Salaam Ghana for directly engaging beneficiaries and traditional authorities, including the Madina Chief and sub-chiefs, to ensure fairness and transparency in distribution.
