A black-winged kite from Brussels has been rescued by farmer at Assin Breku
A wounded black kite, believed to have migrated from Belgium, has been rescued by a farmer at Assin Breku in the Assin North District of the Central Region.
According to multiple reports, the bird, suspected to have been shot while preying on local chickens, was identified through a metal ring linked to the Brussels Museum of Natural Sciences.

“The bird, suspected to have been shot while preying on domestic chickens, was discovered in a weak state by 32-year-old farmer Ebenezer Lativi. Officials confirmed the bird’s origin after finding a metal ring on its leg,” an X post by CDR Africa on January 27, 2026, stated.
The metal ring found on the bird bore the inscription; “Museum Science, 1000 Brussel,” along with a unique identification code, H220252, linking the bird to the Brussels Museum of Natural Sciences.
Meanwhile, Sylvester Amakye-Nyarko, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Assin North, has instructed that the bird be properly cared for by local veterinary officers.

The black-winged kite, also known as the black-shouldered kite, is predominantly found in open lands and semi-deserts across sub-Saharan Africa and tropical Asia, with some populations in southern Europe.
