Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi

A member of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team Member of Parliament for Ofoase/Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) foremost task is to rebuild and strengthen the trust of its core supporters.

He, however, expressed confidence that the party’s newly elected flagbearer has already demonstrated a strong commitment in that direction.

According to him, Dr Bawumia has made it clear that all opinions will be respected and that every constructive idea will be given a listening ear.

He noted that this posture directly responds to concerns among party faithful about unity and inclusiveness.

Speaking during a panel discussion on PM Express, Oppong Nkrumah emphasised that efforts aimed at peacebuilding and deepening unity within the party must be sincere, deliberate and heartfelt and not perfunctory or merely symbolic.

He further indicated that the flagbearer has already shown openness and readiness to unite all factions, describing him as a leader with the right attitude and a generous, accommodating spirit.

Oppong Nkrumah also observed that the various candidates, during their respective campaigns, put forward diverse policy ideas.

He stressed that these ideas would be valuable in complementing the broader policy direction to be shaped by the flagbearer going forward.

He added that it was particularly encouraging that all the contestants have shown a willingness to embrace reconciliation and actively support the party’s unity-building process.

Touching on the tone of the campaign, he acknowledged that there were moments of strong, and sometimes harsh, rhetoric directed at Dr Bawumia.

However, he urged party members and supporters to remain focused on their shared vision for the party and the country, rather than engaging in further attacks or demonisation.

He stressed the importance of fostering a culture in which all views — including dissenting ones are respected and accommodated, in the interest of strengthening the party for the future.
