Reducing Ministers to 60 has saved Ghana millions spent on Land Cruisers, saloon cars, bungalows, fuel and other benefits – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has stated that, the President, John Dramani Mahama having reduced the number of ministers to 60 has led to significant savings for Ghana. According to him, the reduction from 125 ministers under the Akufo-Addo administration to 60 has resulted in avoided costs on Land Cruisers, saloon cars, bungalows, fuel, and other benefits.

Taking his turn at the Government Accountability Series today, January 14, 2026, Mr Kwakye Ofosu revealed that, each minister is entitled to a four-wheel drive Land Cruiser, a saloon car, accommodation, fuel, and a salary. With the current market rate of a standard Land Cruiser at $120,000 and a saloon car at $50,000 to $60,000, the reduction in ministers has led to substantial savings.

He added that, government has also avoided spending on refurbishing bungalows and paying salaries for the reduced number of ministers. This move, forms part of President Mahama’s effort to streamline government operations and enhance efficiency, as seen in the reduction of ministers.
