Ghanaian highlife great and Blackstar Experience Coordinator, Rex Owusu Marfo—widely recognised as Rex Omar—has singled out Shatta Wale as the artist who best reflects the spirit of Ghana’s evolving music landscape.

Appearing on Joy Prime TV’s Prime Morning show, the celebrated musician looked back on his decades of campaigning for better structures, visibility and investment within the creative sector. He noted that his long fight for recognition in the arts has finally begun yielding results, and he believes Shatta Wale represents the bold, outspoken and relentless drive needed to push the industry even further.

According to Rex Omar, the dancehall star’s influence, confidence, and ability to command national attention show that he has effectively taken the advocacy baton from the older generation and advanced it in his own unique way. He explained that the prominence Ghanaian musicians enjoy today is the result of years of pressure on policymakers and stakeholders—work he says newer artists like Shatta Wale are now amplifying with even greater force.

Rex Omar emphasised that the energy and impact seen in today’s music industry are not accidental but a continuation of efforts that have been ongoing for decades. To him, Shatta Wale’s role in shaping the creative space makes him a standout figure in modern Ghanaian music and a fitting representative of the movement he himself championed for years.
