Wanderlust Ghana, a group of thrill-seekers and adventurers, recently faced a setback during their journey when thieves broke into one of their vehicles in Krefeld, Germany.
The incident occurred on the 13th day of their ambitious overland expedition from Accra to Dubai, which spans 30 days and covers 30 countries.
Wanderlust Ghana, known for their 2023 trip covering 10,000 kilometres from Accra to London, is backed by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture as well as the Ghana Tourism Authority.
This year, they are aiming for a much larger expedition of over 30,000 kilometres. However, the recent robbery has disrupted their plans.
Kwame Peprah, a member of the team, shared the unfortunate news in a Facebook post on Friday, 27th September. According to Peprah, one of the vehicles, a Tacoma, was broken into, and several valuable items, including a passport, were stolen.
He noted that the incident could potentially end the trip for one of the members, as the passport and visas required for further travel were taken.
The team immediately reported the break-in to the German police, and the situation is being handled by the authorities.
There are hopes of securing a replacement passport at the embassy in Berlin, but the challenge of reissuing visas could pose significant delays.
Despite the setback, the adventurers remain determined to continue their journey, highlighting the unpredictable nature of such bold undertakings.
“I was dressing up when Saka knocked on my door that the receptionist had called him. The Tacoma has been burgled. Someone smashed the front window and took lots of stuff, including my wallet and possibly Kwame’s passport.”
“We are not allowed to touch the car before the police have had their turn and so at the moment, I’m sitting in a German police station waiting to file a report and go through the processes.”
“If Kwame’s passport was in the car, I’m sure we can get a new one issued at the embassy in Berlin but the trip may be over for him because the other visas needed along the route will not be easy to reissue.”
