In a remarkable display of international collaboration and dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery in Ghana, the Rotary Club of Accra-East and the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown, with support from The Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Club of Hershey, and Rotary District 7390, have jointly donated essential medical equipment and supplies to Hopewell Community Clinic.
The project, valued at $95,000, aims, among other objectives, to strengthen primary healthcare capacity. It is a Global Grant project that will make life-saving care more accessible to over 40,000 residents of the Agbogbloshie community.
The items presented included hospital beds, defibrillators, blood pressure apparatus, ECG machines, oxygen cylinders, manual wheelchairs, ward screens, nebulizers, microscopes, laboratory incubators, chemistry analyzers, haematology analyzers, and several other essential supplies.
In addition to providing medical equipment, the project funded the purchase of a 20kV standby generator to ensure the clinic operates 24/7 with uninterrupted power, enabling it to manage nighttime emergencies effectively.
The handover ceremony took place at Hopewell Community Clinic in Agbogbloshie and was attended by distinguished guests, including the District Governor of Rotary International District 9104, Nanayaa Pokua Sriboe; Past District Governor Dennis Zubler; Mr Philip Okai Darko, Director of Arm of Hope Ghana; as well as Rotarians from the Rotary Clubs of Accra-East and Elizabethtown.
Healthcare professionals, local government representatives, community leaders, and members of the public were also present.
Speaking at the event, President of the Rotary Club of Accra-East, Miss Mary Elorm Addo, highlighted the significance of the collaboration and the journey that led to the generous donation, acknowledging the contributions of all project partners.
“Today, in collaboration with The Rotary Foundation and the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown, USA, we donate this medical equipment to enable Hopewell Community Clinic to deliver timely diagnoses, safer procedures, and an improved patient experience for the community,” she stated.
She expressed her joy at being part of a project capable of saving thousands of lives and urged the clinic’s staff and management to utilise the knowledge and skills gained from the project’s training sessions to maintain the equipment effectively.
President of the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown, Rotarian Denise Grove, expressed her delight at returning to Ghana after her first visit in 2015.
She commended the Rotary Club of Accra-East for its partnership and dedication in turning the project vision into reality.
“This project will create opportunities to save the lives of children and mothers and ensure access to quality healthcare, as we Rotarians understand the importance of strong local healthcare systems,” she emphasised.
She added that the initiative marks the beginning of a long-lasting partnership between the two Rotary clubs.
District Governor of Rotary International District 9104, Nanayaa Sriboe, noted that the donation aligns directly with Rotary’s mission to unite and take action to create lasting change worldwide.
She added that the project supports Rotary’s focus on disease prevention and treatment, stressing that investments in healthcare initiatives ultimately save lives.
Director of Arm of Hope Ghana, Mr Philip Okai Darko stated that many families in the community struggle to access affordable and quality healthcare.
He explained that illness often disrupts education, weakens families, and deepens poverty, adding that the clinic was established as a calculated response to this pressing need.
On behalf of Arm of Hope Ghana, Mr Darko expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Clubs of Elizabethtown and Accra-East for their partnership, generosity, and belief in the vision that made the clinic a reality.
“The equipment and supplies you are handing over will directly impact lives, strengthen families, and support the well-being of our beneficiaries and the wider community,” he added.
Receiving the items on behalf of the clinic, Mr Aboagye Akuffo, Board Chair of Hopewell Community Clinic, expressed appreciation to the donors for their generosity.
He noted that the facility will play a key role in primary healthcare delivery, as residents across the community will depend on its services.
He reiterated the call for more organisations to support community health initiatives.
The visiting team also took the opportunity to tour the facility.
