Salesgirl Busted with Cocaine Hidden in Underwear, Gets 10-Year Jail Term

A 28-year-old salesgirl, Sumaiya Amidu, has been handed a 10-year prison sentence by an Accra Circuit Court after being found guilty of drug possession. Her downfall came when police discovered cocaine hidden in a very unlikely location—inside her underwear.

The judgment, delivered by Judge Isaac Addo, followed a full trial. Alongside the custodial sentence, the court slapped her with a fine of GHC120,000. Should she fail to pay, she faces an additional three years behind bars.

The arrest took place on March 15, 2022, at Abbosey Okai Sabon Zongo, after officers from the CID’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit acted on intelligence and intercepted her at a local cosmetic shop.

During the search, officers uncovered 165 gold foil wraps of a white substance hidden in her underwear. The material, weighing 7.1940 grammes, was later confirmed through forensic testing to be cocaine.

When questioned, Amidu admitted the drugs were in her possession but claimed she had been holding them for a man named Dauda. Despite this confession, she declined to help authorities locate him.

Her refusal to cooperate and the scientific confirmation of the substance sealed her fate in court, resulting in a decade-long jail term.
