Ghanaian music legend Samini is not holding back as he fires shots at Stonebwoy’s fanbase, accusing them of distorting history and disrespecting his legacy in the Afro Dancehall movement.
In a charged back-and-forth on social media, Samini expressed his frustration at what he sees as deliberate attempts to erase his pioneering role in shaping the genre. While he stopped short of accusing Stonebwoy directly, he made it clear that the artist should check his followers before things spiral.
Taking to his platform, Samini lashed out after being tagged in posts that questioned his influence on the Afro Dancehall sound. In his view, these fans were not only misinformed but were also trying to stir unnecessary tension.
He reminded critics that Stonebwoy’s earliest career milestones—including his debut album—were made possible through his direct mentorship. According to Samini, he not only guided the young artist but also oversaw and released that debut project, which became a breakthrough hit.
Addressing the origins of the genre, Samini explained that while he never claimed to have coined “Afro Dancehall,” his unique brand of African Dancehall served as the blueprint. By fusing local dialects with Jamaican-style patois, Samini says he laid the foundation for what later evolved into Afro Dancehall—a style he even advised Stonebwoy to adopt.
Despite the drama, Samini didn’t dismiss Stonebwoy’s contributions but emphasized that the newer generation must acknowledge the path that was paved before them.
He also name-dropped top Ghanaian producer JMJ as someone who can confirm his longstanding influence on the sound, urging those involved to seek facts rather than stir divisions.
Samini made it clear: he’s not asking for glory—but if his name is going to be dragged into conversations about Afro Dancehall, it better be with respect.
