Kumawood actor and now movie producer Nana Fred, popularly known as Kyinkyinaa Twan, has shared the heartbreaking reason he gave up his music career—and it all boils down to one name: Sarkodie.
In a recent conversation with Adwoa Papabi on Grace TV, monitored by NewsandVibes, Kyinkyinaa Twan opened up about how his passion for rap was extinguished by the overwhelming impact of Sarkodie’s entry into Ghana’s music scene.
According to the actor, he didn’t stumble into music by accident—it was something deeply rooted in him. Rap, he said, came naturally, and he had nurtured it since childhood. But everything changed when Sarkodie burst onto the scene.
He explained that despite the quality of his own tracks, they failed to gain attention or recognition. Every new song he dropped was overlooked, as all focus and hype shifted to Sarkodie’s dominance in the rap industry.
With time, Kyinkyinaa Twan felt he had no space left to grow musically and eventually made the tough decision to walk away from the microphone. That led him to pursue acting and later, movie production and farming.
Though he’s since found new purpose in other fields, the former rapper’s story is a reminder of how one artist’s meteoric rise can reshape the path of another.
