Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has revealed that his latest hit single “No Sir” was inspired by a personal experience of heartbreak.
In an interview, Sarkodie shared that the song tells the story of a friend who betrayed him by pursuing his girlfriend.
According to Sarkodie, the incident occurred when he was in a relationship with a girl, but his friend, who came from a wealthier background, managed to win her over.
Sarkodie recalled that his friend had his own space in the boys’ quarters of his house and even had a car, while Sarkodie came from a middle-class family.
Despite the pain of being betrayed, Sarkodie took the experience in stride and used it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
He noted that the story behind “No Sir” is relatable to many people, especially during the festive season.
“This December, people will go out with their girlfriends and might end up going back alone,” he said with a laugh.
Interestingly, Sarkodie admitted that he had kept “No Sir” unreleased for two years.
He explained that he didn’t want to release the song during the election tension, but the distributors released it anyway. Thankfully, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
As “No Sir” continues to gain popularity, it’s clear that Sarkodie’s ability to turn personal experiences into music that connects with his audience remains unmatched. Fans are eagerly awaiting more magic at his upcoming Rapperholic concert.

“This is a true story, and I think from both perspectives… I think it’s happened to me before, but it wasn’t this bad. A friend of mine who came from a good family and had a car while I came from a middle-class family. He had his own space in the boys’ quarters of his house. My girlfriend, who everyone knew I was dating, ended up connecting with him. I took it in stride, learned from it, and changed from that day forward.”
