Two online outfits operating under the names News GH and Ghana News have come under serious scrutiny after Ghana’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) flagged them for promoting unregulated investment offers that defy the country’s securities laws.

In a public announcement released on July 1, 2025, the SEC warned the public to avoid any financial dealings with these two entities. News GH is reportedly behind a suspicious investment initiative dubbed the “Gold AI Rise Platform,” while Ghana News is pushing another anonymous product that boasts unrealistic, risk-free profits.

The regulator emphasized that neither platform holds a valid license to operate in Ghana’s capital market space—a violation of Section 3 of the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929), as amended. The schemes, which are aggressively advertised on social media, were described as deceptive and hazardous to unsuspecting investors.

“These groups have been sidestepping regulation to push their products online,” the SEC noted, adding that investors risk losing their funds since the operations fall outside any form of official oversight.

Efforts are already underway to identify and pursue legal action against the individuals behind these ventures. The Commission disclosed it is working closely with security agencies to clamp down on the masterminds and put an end to their activities.

In its public advisory, the SEC reaffirmed its investor protection mandate and urged Ghanaians to be extra cautious when approached with offers promising unusually high returns.

The public is also reminded to verify the legitimacy of any investment firm before committing funds. Details of all licensed capital market operators can be accessed on the SEC’s website, or through their toll-free line 0800100065, landline 0302768970-2, or email at info@sec.gov.gh.
