The nine-year-old innovator
Shatta Wale recounted that his fascination with gadgets began long before his debut in the music industry. He revealed that at the tender age of nine, he had already authored a conceptual book for a security gadget designed to enhance safety, a direct response to the reports of armed robberies he witnessed during his childhood.
His technical education was hands-on, fostered at home where he served as his father’s unofficial IT consultant.
He spent his youth repairing his father’s computers and designing professional stationery, including letterheads and complimentary cards for his father’s associates in the political sphere.
Shatta Wale insists that his musical success is balanced by a mind “grown from a tech background,” providing him with a unique edge in product development and consumer electronics.
From real estate to rugged devices
The transition from music to mobile telecommunications happened organically after a real estate partner, noting the musician’s deep knowledge of hardware, connected him with a group of investors interested in a strategic partnership.
Recognising a gap in the Ghanaian market for devices that could withstand the country’s unique environmental and infrastructural challenges, Shatta Wale moved to launch the Hotwav brand.
His vision was clear: to create robust, “high-quality, and affordable” phones that do not crack under pressure.

The brand, which officially unveiled models such as the Cyber 16 Pro (SM Series) and the A17 Pro Max in February 2026, has already begun to disrupt the mid-range market.
The devices are specifically engineered for the West African consumer, featuring:

- Longevity: Large-capacity batteries tailored for long operational hours.
