A young man has narrated a harrowing tale of being trapped under a Kayamata spell for two years, at times even borrowing money to fund his girlfriend’s lavish lifestyle.
The young man spoke to GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar in the mind‑blowing documentary ‘Sex and Spirits: The Dark Side of Kayamata’.
He recounted how strange occurrences began after two years of dating, marking the start of his ordeal under the spell.
“She started using it… when I wasn’t giving her certain things. It’s as if they are using you. You don’t even know what you’re doing. They command you, and you do everything they ask. It’s crazy.
“When she tells you I need money. You don’t even think twice. You can even go as far as to take loans from your friends just because. You can even go and take money from your mother,” he described.

According to the young man, clarity usually comes only after his girlfriend’s demands have been fulfilled.
“It is only after you give in to their demand. That’s when you ask yourself, ‘Did I do something like this?’ You can’t go and take your money back because they’ve already done it to you,” he said.
Narrating some of the shocking ordeals he endured while under the spell, the young man revealed how he paid for flight tickets for the lady and her friends, gave her money even in the midst of conflicts, and went as far as following her to a mallam’s shrine.
“It was all about money; it was all about you being a fool to them. One thing I did, which I regret, was when she told me she was going on vacation with her friends. This was me, a young boy growing up, and I had to pay for flight tickets for her and her friends.
“Another time, we had a misunderstanding. We fought to the extent that a knife even came in, and after that fight, after she had left my place, she called me and demanded money, and I was able to give it to her. I wasn’t even thinking twice at all,” he said.
He said his rescue came through a spiritual father who identified the woman and described the method she used to charm him.
“I was almost on the verge of losing everything. It took a spiritual father of mine who actually saw it. He saw me and mentioned whoever was doing it to me. He mentioned her name, and he gave me instances of things she had done to me.
“I didn’t want to believe it until he told me how they were able to capture me. It was through my bathwater. It turns out they had given her a liquid to pour in my bathwater. When I confronted her, she was like, ‘Who told me?’ I told her my spiritual father. I told her she’s a bad person capable of killing me for money,” he shared.
He added that his escape was far from easy, requiring him to purchase numerous items to break free from the spell.
“I just wanted to forget about her and move on. So I needed to fight it back. I bought some drinks and stuff. It took about three crates of eggs before they were able to break my curse for me,” he said.
