aa Torshie has been accused of being responsible for the NPP’s electoral loss in 2024
A former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suame, Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, has criticised the former District Assemblies Common Fund Administrator, Irene Naa Torshie Addo, for blaming Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
Speaking in a radio interview on Pure FM, Ofosu Boakye said Naa Torshie must also take responsibility for the party’s loss in the Suame constituency.

“What did Naa Torshie do to help us? She is part of the reasons why we [the NPP] lost the 2024 elections,” he said.
He explained that her tenure as Common Fund Administrator made it difficult for local government officials to carry out development projects that could have boosted the party’s electoral chances.
“She was a Common Fund Administrator, and if all the former MMDCEs in Ghana decided to cast at least 10 votes for her, she would have won. She took us through hardships and made our work unbearable, hence our election loss,” he stated.
Ofosu Boakye contrasted the situation under the current administration with what he described as persistent delays and low disbursements during the NPP era.
“The current government has released about 80% of the Common Fund, but during our time in government, the amount Naa Torshie released for the Suame constituency was low and not even frequent. How can we develop the constituency for the electorate to vote for us when the money wasn’t being released?” he asked.
He further accused the former administrator of neglecting the needs of the local residents.
“She ignored the plight of the people and was rather determining what she wanted to be done. We cannot take Naa Torshie out of the blame,” he insisted.
Boakye also took issue with her criticism of Dr Bawumia’s economic record, pointing to the gold purchase programme as a lasting policy legacy.

“Today, the gold purchase arrangement has become a game changer, which the NDC government is continuing,” he argued.
Questioning her claims, he added, “If she says Dr Bawumia did not save the economy, what has saved the Ghanaian economy now other than the gold initiative? Did she envision such things happening? The candidate she is supporting, was he able to have such vision?”
