A suspected Nigerian internet fraudster, commonly referred to as a “Yahoo boy,” has triggered widespread criticism after reportedly giving his newborn daughter a name made up of the clients he had successfully defrauded.
The unusual incident came to light through a post shared by user @ChuksEricE on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The post included a video showing what appeared to be a naming ceremony held in a church, with a man believed to be a pastor officiating the event.
In the footage, the father stands proudly as his daughter is named—allegedly after multiple scam victims he had deceived in the course of his online fraud activities.
The shocking move sparked a wave of disapproval across social media, with users condemning the act as not only unethical but a dangerous precedent that could affect the innocent child’s future.
Commenters slammed both the father and the pastor involved, arguing that such a ceremony should never have taken place, especially within a religious setting. Many pointed out that in other parts of the world, this type of behavior might warrant immediate attention from child protection authorities.
Despite the backlash, some sarcastically congratulated the man, implying that his “business” must be thriving for him to celebrate it so boldly.
