President John Dramani Mahama

The plight of the ordinary people in Cuba, who are the innocent victims of the warmongers currently in power in the US, who have imposed an oil blockade on Cuba that is making life unbearable for all of Cuba’s societal demographics, is dire. Literally.

It is crucial that Ghana, a well-respected non-aligned Pan-Africanist stable democratic nation dedicated to peaceful coexistence between all nations on the planet, acts now.

Ghana has benefited tremendously from training programmes in Cuba for our younger generations for decades, as well as from the expertise of Cuban volunteer specialists, such as medical doctors.

Now is the time for Ghana to help ameliorate the situation faced by ordinary Cubans, as the effects of the US-imposed oil blockade begin to bite and the Cuban economy melts down due to the lack of fuel to power generators nationwide, providing electricity.

Ghana should impress upon the Cuban leadership the geopolitical strategic necessity of ditching one-party rule, releasing all political prisoners and starting the process for a transition to democracy.

This should remove the key factors that have led to the current crisis and hindered Cuba’s relationship with the US, which would improve dramatically were Cuba to become a free democracy.

The Mahama 2.0 administration must act now, not tomorrow. A word to the wise…
