Authorities say investigations are ongoing in most of the reported cases

A disturbing trend of violence in some Senior High Schools (SHSs) across Ghana has raised renewed concerns about discipline and safety in second-cycle institutions.

In recent months, several incidents involving students assaulting teachers, security personnel and fellow students have been reported.

Below is a list of notable cases:

1. Obrachire SHS student hospitalised after district games violence

A student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School was hospitalised after being allegedly assaulted during the District Schools Athletics Games held at Agona Swedru on February 19, 2026.

Reports indicate the student was attacked and pelted with stones during a clash involving students from Swedru School of Business. Police have since launched investigations into the matter.

2. Berekum SHS students assault night security guard

Students of Berekum Senior High School allegedly attacked a night security guard after he prevented them from leaving the school premises at night.

The guard, identified as Kwame Ernest, was reportedly beaten to unconsciousness and later hospitalised.

The incident is said to have occurred during an inter-school football event. Police investigations are ongoing.

3. Kade SHS students assault teacher over discipline

At Kade Senior High Technical School, a group of students were captured in a viral video physically assaulting a teacher reportedly over strict enforcement of examination rules.

The incident sparked widespread condemnation, with education authorities promising disciplinary action.

4. West Africa SHS teachers attacked

Teachers at West Africa Senior High School were reportedly attacked after confronting students over breaches of school regulations.

The assault drew criticism from teacher unions, who called for improved security and stricter enforcement of discipline.

5. Christian Methodist SHS students clash with teachers

Students of Christian Methodist Senior High School allegedly attacked teachers during examinations after being prevented from engaging in malpractice.

6. Akro SHS student attacks teacher and security guard

A student of Akro Senior High Technical School reportedly beat a supervising teacher and later stabbed a security guard with a broken bottle during an altercation on campus.

The increasing frequency of such incidents has prompted calls from stakeholders for urgent reforms in student discipline, counselling support systems, and campus security measures.
