Tragedy struck on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway as Police Officer Stephen Nii Quaye lost his life in a devastating accident involving a KIA truck at a checkpoint in Gomoa Mpota.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 11:00 PM on a fateful Friday night, leaving the Winneba Divisional Police Command and the local community reeling in shock. Officer Stephen Nii Quaye, who was stationed at the checkpoint, was struck and fatally injured by the speeding KIA truck.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene, describing how the KIA truck, allegedly driven by a driver who admitted to falling asleep at the wheel, collided with several vehicles before crashing into the metal barrier at the police checkpoint. The impact was severe, resulting in Officer Stephen Nii Quaye being run over and sustaining fatal injuries.

The collision involved multiple vehicles, including the KIA truck with registration number GR-6419-N, a trailer registered as GE-5468-22, and a fuel tanker marked GY-2186-13. Three other individuals were also injured in the accident and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

In response to the tragic incident, authorities swiftly moved to secure the scene and initiate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The body of Officer Stephen Nii Quaye has been transferred to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and preservation pending further inquiries.
