A peaceful school community in Lamu Central, Kenya, has been thrown into deep mourning after a horrific shooting involving a female teacher, her young daughter, and a soldier believed to be her boyfriend.
The victim, identified as Sheila Mokaya, had been serving at Mukunguni Junior Secondary School since August 2023. Her promising life and that of her 5-year-old daughter came to a tragic end after the soldier opened fire on them in a shocking act of violence.
After shooting both mother and child, the man reportedly turned the gun on himself, ending his own life as well. The devastating event has left residents in disbelief, with many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of three lives.
At this stage, investigators have yet to uncover what prompted the soldier’s deadly outburst. The motive remains unclear, but authorities have launched a full inquiry into the matter.
