Soldiers Assault Civilians for Disconnecting Electricity Supply Over Unpaid Debt

There’s a growing conflict between Ikeja Electric and the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja, Lagos, following the disconnection of power due to a significant unpaid debt.

The air base has now been without electricity for over two weeks, and tensions are mounting as both sides struggle with the fallout.

Reports indicate that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had initially agreed to a payment arrangement, committing to ₦60 million a month in exchange for reliable power supply, with expectations of 10 to 12 hours of electricity each day.

However, the NAF allegedly failed to honor their end of the deal, prompting Ikeja Electric to sever their power connection.

The extended outage has put considerable strain on the air base, with NAF officials claiming that the power cut is jeopardizing their security operations.

The situation took a violent turn when a group of soldiers from the NAF reportedly raided Ikeja Electric’s office in Oshodi. The soldiers are said to have assaulted staff members and damaged property, actions that have stirred public outrage across the city.

The incident has led to a wave of mixed reactions. Some critics view the soldiers’ actions as an overstep, accusing the NAF of abusing its power, while others sympathize with the frustration of being cut off from vital services.

The escalating tension has left many concerned about the potential for further violence unless the matter is swiftly resolved. Ikeja Electric has not yet commented on the incident, leaving many questions surrounding the clash unanswered.
