The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, has underscored the importance of deepening partnerships between Ghana and Spain to address shared migration challenges and promote safe and orderly movement.

He made the remarks during a courtesy call on the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Mr Samuel Basintale Amadu, at the Service’s National Headquarters.

The meeting formed part of ongoing diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in migration management, border security, and capacity building.

Ambassador Lossada emphasised the need to sustain strong collaboration between the two countries, noting that effective cooperation is vital to achieving mutual security and development goals.

“Strong partnerships are essential if we are to manage migration in a way that is safe, orderly, and beneficial to both our countries,” the Ambassador said.

Mr Amadu welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the GIS’s commitment to working closely with international partners.

He said the Service remains focused on advancing migration governance while safeguarding Ghana’s borders.

The two officials discussed areas for further collaboration, including training, intelligence sharing, and technical support to strengthen Ghana’s border management systems.

Spain remains a key partner for Ghana on migration issues, particularly regarding irregular migration flows through West Africa to Europe.

Both countries have, in recent years, cooperated on return and reintegration programmes, as well as initiatives to tackle human trafficking and smuggling networks.
