Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has been appointed to the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s (IPU) Task Force on the peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine. The selection highlights Bagbin’s reputation for integrity, impartiality, and ability to foster trust among diverse parties.

The announcement, made on October 30, 2025, confirms Bagbin’s role alongside seven other parliamentarians representing all six IPU geopolitical groups. The task force, established in March 2022, serves as a platform for dialogue between Ukrainian and Russian lawmakers, with the aim of supporting diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.

Since its formation, the task force has conducted thirteen meetings and carried out a joint mission to Kyiv and Moscow in July 2022. Members continue to engage delegations from both countries every six months during IPU assemblies.

Bagbin’s inclusion is expected to strengthen the task force’s initiatives and provide renewed momentum to its peacebuilding mandate. In his new role, he will participate in high-level consultations, attend IPU assembly meetings, and contribute to diplomatic efforts seeking a resolution to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The IPU Secretary-General, Martin Chungong, expressed confidence in Bagbin’s experience and leadership, emphasizing that his involvement would enhance the task force’s impact in promoting constructive dialogue and peaceful solutions.
