Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has expressed disappointment in the performance of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, describing his tenure as largely unproductive.
In an interview with Channel One on November 11, 2025, Blay highlighted that despite significant government funding, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has failed to deliver tangible results. He described the office’s activities as “a lot of smoke and no fire,” noting that public engagements have mostly involved press conferences rather than visible action.
Blay contrasted Kissi Agyebeng’s tenure with that of his predecessor, Martin Amidu, emphasizing that Amidu had achieved results even with limited resources. He praised Amidu’s impartiality, integrity, and commitment to letting the law guide his anti-corruption efforts, qualities that earned him respect across the political spectrum.
According to Blay, while Amidu’s appointment initially raised concerns within political circles, his fairness and neutrality quickly established confidence in his leadership. Blay suggested that the current Special Prosecutor has not demonstrated the same level of effectiveness or impact.
The remarks add to ongoing public debate regarding the performance and accountability of the Office of the Special Prosecutor in Ghana’s fight against corruption.
